So I know it’s January right now and Christmas is now long gone, but I couldn’t let January go by and not write about how fun Disney World in Florida is at the Holiday season. I’ve visited Disney at Christmas, each on different years. Right now a lot of people, myself included are feeling a bit down after the Holidays, so this post is bound to shake those January blues and get you feeling all festive again. Only 341 sleeps til Christmas.
Unlike in the UK where everything closes down for the Holidays, over in Disney World everything stays open all year around. Christmas is a very busy time in Disney, especially Christmas Day. Some years, Magic Kingdom has even reached capacity and has had to stop letting more people in.
The photos I took were from various years I went.
The Resorts
The Disney resorts are all decorated for the Holidays with loads of different decorations themed to that particular resort. No resort is the same and offers a different style of decorations in each. Another bonus was at different times of the day, different Disney characters came out in Christmas outfits. My favorite meet and greet had to be with Daisy and Scrooge McDuck in the Contemporary Resort. Scrooge is a hard to find character and only really comes out this time of year.
Along with fantastic trees, some of the resorts also feature different displays made out of gingerbread. Check out the giant gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian Resort, it even features a shop where you can buy gingerbread.
Around The Parks
All of the parks were themed for the Holidays and featured a giant tree in each. Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom both featured a Christmas themed parade. The parades can get very popular, so finding a good spot early is really important if you want a good view.
Sadly gone forever from Disney, but still remembered by many is the Osborne Family Spectacle Of Dancing Lights at Hollywood Studios. This was a really awesome display of lights and the lights even danced to music. The lights went out in 2015 to make way for the new Toy Story and Star Wars lands.
In Magic Kingdom, Cinderella’s Castle is all it up with lights and looks like there is icicles on the castle.
Don’t miss Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which is a separate ticketed event held at the Magic Kingdom on select nights between November 7 to December 22. The event is similar to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.
Christmas is a fantastic time to visit Disney World as the decorations and theming is fantastic. It’s also one of the busiest times of year too, so expect loads of crowds, especially on Christmas Day. The weather is also nice and pleasant too. It’s still warm, but not all hot like in the summer.
Oh wow I would truly love to do this! As would my boys!
